Book Launch? What Book Launch?

I wrote recently that my book launch was arranged for The Magna Carta Story.  I also wrote on my personal blog about How to Run a Book Launch.

Well, the book launch was last week, on Tuesday evening. There were posters up in the bookshop where it was being held. I had told all my friends, put a poster up at church and told people, and announced it at my writers group. I was interviewed on Swansea Sound, the local radio station, on Monday, and I was in the Evening Post, the local paper, on Tuesday.
I was all ready.
Attendance at the book launch: two. One of those was talking to the shop manager and I didn’t even know she was attending!

It wasn’t all bad: I sold four books. I’m just glad I didn’t have to pay for the venue.

As you can see from the pictures above, I had good reason to expect a good turnout. The trouble is, most of my friends had good reasons why they were not available. Some of them just forgot. Maybe it was different because The Magna Carta Story was not a local story, like the others.

It’s taken me a while to get over it, but now I’m just putting it behind me. I’m blogging about it as a warning to others and myself – make sure you have lots of committed people before you go to a lot of trouble.
